I think I shall tell you about Lamar. I mean, why not? It's been a big part of my life since before I was born. Sooo...
My Mom's Side of the Family
Ok, soo. First of all, my mom's parents are both pretty young for being my grandparents. They're both not too describable except for the fact that they're both pretty freaking overweight and their names are Sheri and Chuck. Chuck is nearly bald and has glasses, and Sheri has very short red hair (similar to the color Sarah's hair used to be, actually) and has glasses as well. They're photographers which is awesome and probably how I got my mad skills. I mean, I used the Rule of Thirds without ever having heard of it. Must be hereditary (hereditery...?), don't you agree?
One really awesome thing about them is that THEY DISCOVERED THE SITE OF THE SAND CREEK MASSACRE. Do you remember learning about that in 5th grade?? With the Indians and the cannons and the arrows and the dying?? Yeah! My great-grandparents own where it happened!! Soo, obviously I have been on that land to look at cows and stuff billions. Of. Times. I am so history savvy. They have all these thousands of artifacts they got from metal-detecting there.
Their house is pretty freaking large. It has this seperate wing for the photography-ness, with several background things and props everywhere and a computer and craploads of photography equipment. It's really pretty cool in there.
The house itself I personally find to be pretty cool. Downstairs is the living room, with the tv and the fireplace. There are a bunch of antiques EVERYWHERE. I mean, SO MANY OF THEM. And it actually looks good, too, all interior-decorated and stuff. It's a nice room. The kitchen isn't too interesting, except for they somewhat-recently remodeled it and it's all pretty now. The dining room is boring and has a lot of plates in it. Then there's the bathroom and my grandparents' room and the laundry room and stuff, all of which is boring.
Upstairs is cool, though. The other living room (what do you call it, like, the sitting room or something??) has even more craploads of antiques. It has a tv specifically for the purpose of GH in there right now =3. Down the hall are several rooms. The bathroom which is boring, the little childly room where I normally stay but am not this time because my parents aren't here, the Western-y room where I'm staying just because, and the guest room. The childly room is very very pink and has roses on some wallpaper, and is completely filled with old toys that used to be my mom's and uncle's and that were from yardsales and stuff. There are two beds, one of which is smaller than the other. I usually stay in the bigger one. Like, since I was a very young child. And Emily is staying in the smaller bed even now, just because it's pretty much hers. This Western room is very very Western. It's all brown and has a saddle and some cowboy hats and spurs and crap. Even some Sandcreek artifacts in a glass case. And the guest room isn't cool, except that it has a top hat in there. I love that top hat.
The backyard is GIANT. It has all these scenes for photography, like this little bridge, and a swing, and a pond, and a small barn. But, seriously, this yard is huge. And with all the scenes and stuff, I obviously had lots of fun as a child.
Hey, did you know that about my childhood? When I was little, I was constantly pretending. Like, always. At home, I would hang out all day in the basement, pretending I was an orphan in New York living in some abandoned basement with my fellow orphans. Outside, I was an orphan living... outside. At stores I would always pretend I was this really pretty teenager and I would name myself and give myself this whole new appearance and go around deciding how I felt about clothes. And at this house I would always pretend I lived in some fenced-in park (the backyard) and ate, like, fish out of the pond and berries. I was ALWAYS pretending.
Ok, I think that's all you need to know about my mom's parents.
My Dad's Side of the Family
My dad's mom named Nancy. She is pretty much just very healthy. I mean very very healthy. She does that thing of eating a small snack every so often, and just pretty much always eats healthily. She doesn't even like sweet or rich stuff. Like, she did NOT like this fudge I purchased one time. Fudge is good!! How can you not like fudge?? And she does yoga and goes to a very small church. I know a lot of people at that church. Also she mosaics realy well.
My dad's dad is named Rob. He likes to sit in a chair and watch John Wayne. He sometimes makes things out of wood. He used to be really freaking overweight, and he's still pretty overweight, but he got diabeetus and started eating healthily and going on walks, like, every day. So yeah.
Their house is boring, mostly. It's extremly little. 2 bed, 1 bath. The backyard has a wooden swing that is fun. They have a dog named Daisy who stays in her pin in the backyard mostly. But she's a good dog. And she's a very black German Shepard. I don't really believe she's a German Shepard because she's so black. Maybe that's racist, though. I don't know.
Lamar Otherwise
One word = boring. And, seriously, it's a place of it's very own kind. There is no other place like Lamar. Rachel, my mom's cousin, said that it's like a different world yesterday, and I really truly agree. It is. I don't know whether I like it more or hate it more. -shrug-
"Only in Lamar" is something you can say about a lot of things there. Like one time there was this lady who had some seriously insane hair. She was at Pizza Hut. It was pretty funny even though I don't remember what it looked like. And one time they made this... you know those gate things that aren't actually gates? Those things that go over roads? Normally they mark the entrance of, like, a ranch? Yeah. One of those. So they had one of those, and it was too small for the road, so... instead of making a new one, they put it BY the road. Only in Lamar, man; only in Lamar.
I like it because I have seen Main st. soo many times, and it's exactly the same everytime, except around Christmas. But even around Christmas it's no differnt because they use the same decorations every year. THE SAME ONES.
Good restaurants include:
-Thai Spicy Basil (pretty much just Asian. not Chinese, not actually Thai. just Asian.)
-Subway (I loooove Subway even though it's boring)
-this new place I forgot the name of (it's Mexican, Italian, and a steak house all in one!! only in Lamar...)
-Pizza Hut (we go there the day before Thanksgiving every freaking year with my uncle Mike's friend Joe, except we didn't go this time because we were in Sweden)
Stores, though not necessarily good ones, include:
-the crappiest Wal-Mart ever
-Big R (it's this ranch store where you buy horse shampoo and yokes for your oxen, even though the yokes for your oxen thing is kind of an inside joke with Amy. my grandparents used to take Emily and I there every spring because they have these things of chicks (come one, come all to view a thing of females) and ducklings. They were pretty cute, man.)
-at least 100 antique stores
-Berrypatch Kids or something? I don't know what it's called, but it's this extremely expensive child-clothes store I used to go to sometimes. I had a dream about it last night, lol.
Travel is one of my labels for this post but this really isn't travel considering I've probably spent a good 8th of my life here :(
